Studio Karva is a Community ceramics studio founded and run by Rashi Jain, working in clay since 2004.

Open to all ages for classes in basic and advanced training. Commission orders for functional and sculptural work taken on request.

Studio sessions will resume from this summer, in May, after an exhibition and this residency.

I hear from many of you who have been waiting patiently for the studio to open for classes. Thank you for reaching out. It really does re-assure that the sharing keeps us connected.

Smoke firing a bisqued piece. This was a trial to see if it flashes enough to stain the clay body. But it needed more smoke and time to chaar. These pieces then went into the wood kiln and were beautifully ashed!

Over the years, many sculptures have been smoke fired and it works for some forms!

Test firing the new kiln from @ravietchingpress , at the new studio.

Began working on fixing the space in May .. now getting close to a complete shift. Taking a day at a time. Else it was overwhelming.. to put the studio together and also work.

I have owned a gas kiln since 2008. Now, an electric has been added. All this time, manually running a kiln; be it wood or gas…there is no sound and it is running fairly automatically. I am still sitting around. Feeling the heat rise inside.

Fingers crossed on the results and smooth running!

I was recently put to peace after a conversation with Clare Twomey, when I mentioned I was shifting studio…she exclaimed.. ‘it is 6 months of having 2 studio and your feet in both! ‘😅
